From the Pastor's Desk
Well, it is the last week of July. Summer is almost over and school will be starting in a couple of weeks. I have had 4 weddings thus far this year and several funerals. Thinking about another school year beginning, weddings for young people I watched grow up, and seeing people leave this world only serves to remind me that life is short. Time waits for no one. Wasn't it Forrest Gump that said "life is like a roll of toilet paper, the closer to the end it gets the faster it goes" No matter what we have to deal with, no matter the trial, no matter the joy, our days here on earth are numbered. We are told by scripture that our life is like a vapor.
Psalms 39:5 tell us "Indeed, You have made my days as handbreadths, And my age is as nothing before You; Certainly every man at his best state is but vapor."
James 4:14 says "whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away."
The Bible says that life is but a breath - Job 7:7 "Oh, remember that my life is a breath!"
The Bible also compares life to grass. Psalms 103:15 says "As for man, his days are like grass."
We all know about grass, it is mostly seasonal and in time it ceases to be green and fades away.
So what?s the deal? The deal is - we need to make the most of the time we have here on earth. We need to not take our time here for granted. We should strive every day to be the best person we can be. We need to reflect outwardly what is within us. We are to be Christians in our time as well as in our hearts.
As the days speed up and our time is challenged, we need to remember to give it our all and let us not forget who we are in Christ & let's commit to let others see Jesus in us.
