Grow Up

1 Peter 2:2 - 3 - Like neborn infants, long for the pure spiritual milk, that by it you may grow up into salvation if indeed you have tasted tht the Lord is good.

Did you ever watch a baby take a bottle?  They literally live to take in their supper.  But there comes a time when milk won't be enough.  They soon require a more substantail substance to satisfy their hunger.

Comparing new believers to babies, Peter said that they "long for the pure milk of the word" (v.2).  You wouldn't feed a newborn steak?  Young Christians must start out like little children, taking in things they can understand.  But they can't stay that way forever either.

Believers should grow in their understanding of scripture just like a baby grows in his/her intake of nutrition.  When a seasoned Christian falls out of the church and says they are not growing anymore, whose fault is that?  A seasoned Christian, a mature believer know where he is lacking and proceeds to get nourishment just like an adult knows that meat and potatoes and vegetables put meat on your bones and srength in your muscles.  So who are you fooling if you say "the church is not filling my needs".

Whose table are you eating from, an adult or a child?

We are responsible for our own spiritual growth.  It is not the church that is responsible for your growth.  The church is merely the vehicle where growth can be experienced, it is the table where you eat your spiritual food.

God's Word is a feast for our heart, mind, soul, and spirit.  This is one banquet table where there is no such thing as taking in too much.  The diet we are afforded spiritually is one of eat up my child, eat until you cannot eat any longer.

1 Cor 2:14-16 - The natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him, and heis not able to understand them because tehy are spiritually discerned.  The spiritual person judges all things, but is himself to be judged by no one.  "For who has understood the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him?" But we have the mind of Chirst.

1 Cor. 3:1-3 - But I, brothers, could not address you as spiritual people, but as people of the flesh, as infants in Christ.  I fed you with milk, not solid food, for you were not ready for it.  And even now you are not yet ready, for you are still of the flest.  For while there is jealousy and strife among you, are you not of the flesh and behaving only in a human way?

Are you growing in the Lord?  Are you getting stronger every day?
